Corneal Cross-Linking (Epi-On / EpiOXA)

Corneal cross-linking is a treatment for keratoconus and other corneal ectatic disorders — conditions in which the cornea progressively thins and bulges, distorting vision. The procedure uses riboflavin (vitamin B2) eye drops activated by UV light to strengthen the natural collagen bonds within the cornea, helping to halt or slow the progression of the disease.

Our clinic offers the epi-on approach (EpiOXA), which preserves the cornea's outer epithelial layer during treatment rather than removing it, as is done in traditional epi-off cross-linking. This typically results in less discomfort immediately after the procedure and a more comfortable recovery, while still working to stabilize the cornea.

Cross-linking is most effective when performed early, before significant vision loss has occurred, which is why timely evaluation and treatment are so important for patients with progressive keratoconus.
